One Bedroom Villa with Cave Pool
Santorini is probably the most romantic place on earth. And the most romantic place in Santorini is Villa Ilios. This traditional house in dazzling whites blending in with the colors of the sunset and the Aegean blue is a dream come true for every island lover.
Its stunning setting has a brilliant location too. Villa Ilios is tucked among the cliffs of the marvelous Imerovigli village and can be reached through a breathtaking caldera footpath, making it exceptionally calm and secluded. It’s like flowing between sky and sea.
The astonishing view, the Cycladic curved walls and the traditional details are everything you need to experience Santorini. And they look far better than a picture-perfect postcard.
At the villa, the rooms are naturally cool and the smooth plaster walls embrace local artworks and traditional pieces of furniture perfectly. The bedroom is a haven, with candle-lit niches and a feather-light serenity. The views from the terrace and the large glass windows are breathtaking, overlooking the famous caldera cliffs, neighboring villages and nearby small islands, all cloaked in the soft hues of dawn and dusk.
But you haven’t seen anything until you see the cave pool. Watching the utterly delightful sunset from your private pool is a once in a lifetime experience. Just sit back and relax in front of one of the most beautiful sceneries in the world.
Ever wandered what inspired Santorinians to build their houses at the edge of the Caldera?
The answer lies to their love for the sea. Many early residents of Santorini worked in sea trading and exports, so they had to be close to their occupation but also avoid unfriendly ship invasions. Therefore, wealthy ship captains built the stunning mansions that you can still see in Oia, while ship hands and sailors built “hyposkafa”, the traditional houses carved into the soft pumice stone of the cliff-sides, creating the genuinely unique setting of Santorini.
These houses were easier to build and adapted perfectly to the Aegean climate, protecting its residents from harsh, windy winters and keeping them cool during the hot summers, due to their natural insulation by the stone walls. Even today, this system makes the villas naturally cool during the hot summer days and protects them from the intense island winds!
Our lovely villas, Ilios and Selene, are a brilliant example of the commonly called “cave houses”, and of the island’s genius housebuilding techniques. These homes have a rich historical value and they have been carefully preserved and renovated to the highest standard, for your premium stay. The original shapes of the smooth walls, vaulted ceilings and arched openings were part of the arrangement of the original house and have been creatively used to enhance comfort and luxury.
